Of the many rights given to us under the constition as american citizens is the pursuit of happiness. This right is inalienable. No one can take it away. It is protected.
But what is happiness? How do we define it?
The concept of happiness has changed and evolved over time.Aristotle’s concept of eudomonia(flourishing) emphasized purpose and virtue over pleasure. While other philosophers like epicurus emphasized pleasure and the avoidance of pain over all things.
Religions would emphasize spiritual fulfillment over chasing worldy or material things.
As we see there are many proposed ways of defining and pursuing happiness.
I want to focus on how modern societies pursue it today. We live in a very individualistic society. We dont want any obligations to anyone other than ourselves. We don’t want to have any responsibilities. We want to chase endless pleasure and tolerate zero pain.
We live to please only ourselves. We don’t want to serve anybody. only ourselves. We serve ourselves. We worship ourselves. we live for, and only care to please ourselves. Self-worship is a form of satanism.
People don’t want to have kids. Or be in long term relationships. That would mean commitment.
This pursuit of happiness has no end. And pursuing it would mean driving society into the ground. It would collapse. birth rates would decline. Its members would not produce offspring. Instead they would get dogs. because dogs are cute and fun and will love them unconditionally no matter how shitty of a person they are.
The members of this type of society dont stand for anything. they’re lives have no meaning. They are the beginning, and they are the end. Nothing matters outside of them.
We see in real-time how flawed this hedonistic lifestyle is. people are lonelier than ever. They have no sense of community. they exile themselves from their family.
I will finish this later.
